Key Features: Strategic Location & Purpose: Location: The airport is located in the Kannur district of Kerala, India, in an area of around 2,300 acres. Target Audience: It primarily caters to NRIs, business travelers, and tourists. Economic Impact: It serves as a vital infrastructure project aimed at boosting tourism and supporting economic growth in the region, which is well known for its tourist attractions. Public-Private Partnership (PPP): KIAL is the second greenfield airport in Kerala, built on a Public-Private Partnership model. The initiative aims to enhance connectivity and provide high-quality services to passengers. Inauguration & Operations: The airport was commissioned on December 9, 2018, and became the 4th international airport in Kerala, which is the only state in India with four international airports. Within 9 months of its opening, KIAL achieved the milestone of serving 1 million passengers, and the airport has been seeing a steady increase in passenger traffic every month since its inauguration.
